From humble beginnings in 1959, the Collier Homes story begins when Raymond McCarthy registered the business. Raymond lived on Collier Street in the suburb of Applecross. Hence the name. The first display home called the Norwood, was built on nearby Riseley Street, Booragoon, in 1967.
In 1969, the business was sold to a national land developer, and then in 1981, purchased by its senior executive, Ron Smith. In 1996, Adelaide-based and national homebuilder Home Australia acquired the business. The brand and assets were purchased in November 2016 by the present owner. Dario Amara has been a Registered Building Contractor (BC6630) since March 1984 and is the brand's Registered Building Contractor. Today, the brand operates exclusively on its own building projects and developments.

Dario is a second-generation builder, experienced construction and engineering executive and chartered professional engineer with some forty years of industry experience. As a former CEO of John Holland Asia and an experienced public company director, he brings experienced leadership and well-honed strategic skills to Collier Homes. Having been responsible for projects that, in aggregate, exceed $12B—making Collier Homes a progressive business that builds upon the brand's proud 63-year history is his primary focus. He is the company's Registered Building Contractor and Practitioner (BRN 6630), a Registration he gained in March 1984.

Susan Amara
Director of Finance + Developments
With property experience spanning several decades, Susan has a keen eye for finding the right block and property development and investment. Coming from a family history in building, she is passionate about the industry and is interested in the details of a development project. Early in her career, Susan spent several years working at the United Nations in Vienna, Austria, before working alongside Dario on projects such as the award-winning Uluru resort development, Yulara, in the Northern Territory.

Frank is a valuable asset to our team, sharing his vast experience across the business. With a dedicated focus covering estimating and procurement, he leverages his building knowledge gained over nearly 40 years. He spans the full range of residential price points right up to the luxury end of the market, having worked at Oswald Homes for over 15 years. He also supports our contract administration and construction teams to ensure a smooth transition from the budget estimate right through to the completion of a new development project.

Alex is a registered building practitioner and a qualified carpenter and joiner. This combination, together with his experience spanning the entire residential building, spectrum-including acclaimed and unique custom-designed homes, gives him an eye for detail and quality.
