The art of home building
I am often asked why we refer to “the art of home building” when talking about the process associated with building a new home. The turn of phrase for me is perfectly natural and reflective of reality.
The initial phase in the process of building a custom-designed home is inherently creative. From the avalanche of images that flow from social mediums (e.g. Houzz, Instagram, Pinterest etc.), clients often come to us brimming with design ideas and concepts. Together with our in-house creative and other specialists, we guide the aesthetic choices and spatial relationships so that the end result is a stylish and functional home.
Art is the application of creativity and imagination to create something that typically expresses the human experience.
The main reason for my deep resolve is due to my personal interest in painting and experience on the boards of organisations such as the Art Gallery of Western Australia, and the West Australian Opera Company. These experiences provided me with a deeper insight into art, the creativity that produces it, and its interplay with humanity.
Our preferred design and build approach towards the development of a custom-designed home is affirmed by the diminished numbers of people who visit display homes for inspiration. We recognise this shift in sentiment and prefer to dedicate our efforts to assisting our clients more directly as they commence their home building journey. Accordingly, we have totally divested ourselves of all our display homes.
Our collaboration with the progressive architectural firm, POST- architecture (announcement here), further underscores our resolve. The collaboration strives to develop homes of the highest quality, which innovate around affordability, modularity, scalability and environmental responsiveness.
As a family-owned and operated building company, we are all hands-on. It’s a “for family by family" proposition, making us rather unique. As well as being experienced builders, we are also unique due to my qualification as a chartered professional engineer with some 40 years' experience. This gives us strong project management and structural orientation to what we do.
At Collier Homes, we place a lot of value on the creative side of building a home and ensuring that our client’s vision becomes a happy reality.
