Collier Homes X Grotto Studio
Collier Homes ("Collier") and Grotto Studio ("Grotto") are pleased to announce a design and construct collaborative which aims to re-calibrate and improve upon existing models, to create better quality homes that are affordable, scalable, and efficient.
This drive to make good design accessible comes from a mutual affinity to improve on Australia's suburban landscape.
Presently, the homes that are most often built are the least often to have adequate time and resources spent on the design process.
For decades, architects and builders have stopped actively talking to each other. With both largely left to their own agendas, it has resulted in a generation of housing that in many cases, lacks a cohesive strength of vision and execution.
Through a refresh of the Collier brand — website, designs, and process — this collaboration is an attempt, to not only begin talking again, but to move forward with the aim to make our suburbs a little, or a lot better.
Alberto Amara, director of Collier, commented: “At Collier, we are passionate about the design process associated with building a new home. Active collaboration with designers and architects during this process and throughout construction is vital as it allows us to deliver the best outcome for our clients. The design process in housing frequently overlooks basic design principals, which is a huge missed opportunity."
Craig Nener, director of Grotto, commented: "Having spent several months crossing the isle between the home builder and the architect, I've noticed the flaws, as well as the efficiencies, that comes with each party's lack of dialogue. Working closely with Collier enables me to learn more about this divide, so as to understand the best way to apply more conscious principles of good design, economy, and sustainability."
In isolation, Collier and Grotto collaborated while the world was momentarily paused, granting them time to reflect on the method of design in the project housing industry. From this comes MODUS© — an attempt to simplify and improve the process involved in designing houses with better outcomes for the suburban landscape that are sustainable and scalable, while developing a better client experience.
