In December 1959, an application was lodged with the WA Corporate Affairs Office by Raymond Charles McCarthy to form a new homebuilding company called Collier Constructions Pty Ltd. Ray lived at 14 Collier Street, Applecross - hence the Collier name.
The early years of Collier saw it building houses principally for the State Housing Commission. The company branched out into contract homes, ie homes under contract to individual members of the public, in 1967 with its first display village in Riseley Street, Applecross. Its first display home was called The Norwood.

In 1969 Ray sold the company to a large national organisation called Development Underwriting Ltd (DUL) - a company principally involved in land development. In September 1974, Ron Smith was appointed DUL's Sales Manager and in 1977 its State Manager. In March 1981 Ron Smith acquired the land and building operations of DUL (then trading as Entrad) and began operating solely under the Collier Homes banner.
From 1986 to 1994 the company embarked on an unprecedented growth plan which saw its sales peak at over 140 sales per month and a sales team of 40 consultants.
In 1995 the company was taken over by the Futuris Group and in September 1996 was acquired by national homebuilder Home Australia Pty Ltd, a private company wholly owned by Bob Day and John Smith.
